August 2025 Show and Share

Perhaps the summer heat has kept stitchers at their machines since there were numerous wonderful projects shared at our August meeting.

-President Michelle started us off by showing a sunflower themed quilt that she made during a retreat at Tony's Pizza Event Center in Salina.

-Janet Finney is making her contribution to the Pumpkin Patch inventory with two table toppers.

-New member Donna Van Gilder jumped right in by sharing this cute quilt with tote bags from a Life of Pi pattern. Donna's granddaughter, a new college graduate, will enjoy this quilt.

-Cindy Kahrs showed two quilts, the first of which was made as a Quilt From the Heart, but which won a first place ribbon at the Pottawatomie  County Fair. It was her second quilt, however, that earned the Grand Champion ribbon! Cindy used her scraps, along with fabric from the guild's "free table" to make the Dresden plate centers for each of these golden blocks. Congratulations, Cindy!

-Another new member, Laura Soelter, also incorporated sunflowers in the stars of her quilt made with Kansas Quilters fabrics.

-Sheila Ritchie's family has a number of Michigan State graduates, and her granddaughter is the latest to earn that recognition. Sheila designed the elements to include in this quilt for her granddaughter's graduation.

-Montika Allen-Atkinson's small, but mighty, Japanese meditative quilt features symbolic appliques for good luck, prosperity, femininity, and a quote from Gordon Parks.

-Ruth Prescott's Cascading Diamonds quilt is a beautiful array of cheerful colors that "cascade" down the length of her quilt. She was having so much fun making these blocks that she ended up with enough for two quilts!

-Ginny Petersen's forest features multi-sized trees in varied scrappy fabrics. Ginny's husband commented that some of the trees had fallen over.  It's all in the eye of the beholder, Kind Sir, depending on how you hold the quilt. :)

Hope Wright shared the Opportunity Quilt for the Sunflower Quilter's Guild in Junction City. Yes, this beauty won the Reserve Grand Champion Ribbon at the Geary County Fair.

-Kathy Triplett's table topper was a timely show and tell. She made this octagonal quilt at a Kansas Quilters' Guild workshop taught by one of today's presenters, Toni Steers. She entered this table decor in two different fairs and was awarded two different ribbons...it all depends on the judges. Hmm.

-Alison McCullough's flying geese are a bit confused this time of year. In the summer heat, their instincts are not sensing whether they should go farther north to be cooler or get an early start on fall and head south. (Go north, Pretty Birds; go north.)

-Kathy Garvin is also helping out the Pumpkin Patch fundraiser with another two table runners. Also in a gesture of philanthropic support, Kathy completed a Quilt From the Heart.
