Let's Review Basics and Learn Something New

January 8:

We will start the year with a presentation by Michelle Nichols from Mt. Hope, Kansas.  As a former instructor for Bernina for eight years, Michelle will be sharing her knowledge on how to get the most out of your sewing machine and how to keep it performing its best for you.  Her program will also include machine embroidery tips and the sharing of numerous quilts that she has made.

February 12:  Panelmania with Judy Vore

While she learned to sew as a child, Judy took her first quilting class in 1999 and quickly decided hand applique' was truly her new passion.  She has been an avid quilter since , branching out and learning other methods of applique' and other quilting styles as well.  While Judy now machine pieces most quilts and is also a longarm quilter, she still claims hand applique' to be her favorite quilting technique.  Judy loves to design quilts and the Panelmania program includes many original designs.

In 2014 Judy began offering guild programs and trunk shows/lectures as well as workshops.  Judy's mother, who also shares a love of quilting, often accompanies her.  They make many quilts as shared projects, with Judy doing all of the design work, applique and long-arming, while LaDonna meticulously does the piecing.  Both are happy to share their work with guilds.

March 11:  The Random Block Sampler with Barb Eikmeier
Barb's trunk show will feature sampler quilts made with blocks of many sizes.  This style of quilt first became popular in the late 1800s and has enjoyed a resurgence of popularity in recent year.  Making a one-of-a-kind with random sizes has its own set of challenges.  Barb will demonstrate with examples how you can convert your own block collection into a stunning quilt.

Members can create a Charming Log Cabin during the afternoon workshop. Students will start with a charm pack of 5" pre-cut squares and learn to piece accurate 3 1/2" Log Cabin blocks without paper piecing. One charm pack will yield 21 block.

April 8:  Color Theory Through Technology: Jody Cheatum shares strategies for using internet video as a valuable resource.

May 13:  Strategies for UFO's with Mary Honas, owner of First Rate Designs, Overland Park, KS.
I have sewn since I was a child, made my own clothing through high school and working years and have been quilting for over 30 years.  Quilting has fit with my other interests from the beginning.  I was a stay-at-home mom, volunteering and quilting for 18 years.  Some of my fondest memories during that time are from making quilts to recognize the many volunteers I’ve known.  When my oldest son started college and with a 3-year-old at home, I began teaching quilting evenings and weekends at Harper's Fabrics & Quilts in Overland Park.  I’ve always taught “something”, Sunday school, aerobics during the Jane Fonda craze, my five kids.  Teaching is what I love best.  I have taught many different classes over the years and the first class I taught, Quilting 101: the Basics, is still my favorite.  I love seeing the light bulb go on with beginners and more experienced quilters who are looking for tips to become more precise.
