Fiber Arts and Crafts

(Ten quilts belonging to our own Patty Nelson were chosen for display at this event.)

The gallery at the Lee Dam Center for Fine Art, Marysville, is filled with a variety of art created by local artisans.  Quilts, dresses, sweaters, doll clothes, wooden bowls, plush decorative items, paintings and fabric toys are on exhibit throughout the month of January.  The exhibit is sponsored by the Marshall County Arts Cooperative.

“We did an all-call to the community asking people to bring their fabric arts and crafts to put on display,” said Hannah Schroller-Simpson, the arts cooperative’s treasurer.  “We are so pleased with the response.  There are twenty-five members of our community who are displaying their art.”

The local artists whose work is on display: Brantley Albrecht, Katherine Albrecht, Tali Barry, Lexie Clark, Trevor Clark, Alyssa Feldkamp, Bernadette Friedrichs, Norman Jurgensen, Monica Iles, Marilyn Jacobson White, Robert Kloppenborg, Mary Kueny, Cedric Kyner, Leona Meyer, Becky Musil, Patty Nelson, Zellie Schmitz, Nancy Schreiner, Diane Schroller, Courtney Slifer, Monica Sump, Helen Stucky-Weaver, Sandy Swart, Lilly Voet and Carla Wolfe.

Some of the pieces are for sale.  People may purchase quilts, pot holders, bags, children’s clothes and accessories, wood-turned bowls, coloring books, plush seasonal decor and doll clothes.

In conjunction with the focus on fiber arts, the arts cooperative is sponsoring a macrame class Wednesday, January 24, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the art center.  Courtney Slifer, Frankfort, will teach the class.  To register, people should call or text 785-859-4260.

Senior Saturday will be from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. Saturday, January 27.  The art center will be open for those 60 years and older.  Coffee and breakfast foods will be served.  In addition to viewing the collection, seniors are invited to socialize with others and enjoy the art center’s ambiance.

The exhibition, Fiber Arts and Crafts, runs until Sunday, January 28.

The art center is open Sundays from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m.; Tuesdays from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.; Thursdays from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.; and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.   The art center is closed Sunday, January 14.
